Okies, after being the first critter to set free my vector appetite, the Owls finally have a ref sheet and a definitive clothed, spirit, and bird form The texture on this one is more about suggesting an ethereality and oldness rather than grunge or feathers. The markings on their face are generally unique or nearly unique to each Owl.
Every bird spirit has three forms;
- its average 'normal' look, save for those people observant enough to notice that they either have odd coloured eyes for the species or retain some of their spirit markings. - a 'clothed' form, which they sometimes appear to humans as and generally represent several things about their nature. For example on the Crows, they are chained about the neck. A sign they have the weight of sin and maliciousness about them. - a 'spirit' form, usually the biggest incarnation of each bird spirit and often the most powerful and dangerous.
the only thing is that the sort of.. smudges? on the neck of the spirit form look like they don't really.. belong there or fit the style of the rest of the drawing. I'm not sure if it's the smudges themselves or the style they're done in... the rest of it is so crisp that they look a bit off
Yeah, they were added via a soft brush in Photoshop instead of making each marking in Illustrator. Was hoping they'd fit in a bit better or just look a little more natural or spaced. But I agree, they don't quiiite fit, especially as there is texture on top too.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
